Guest Application

The 2017 H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival takes place October 6-8th at the Hollywood Theatre (4122 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland, OR). While it is our sincere desire to include as many people as possible in the festival, we are being very selective this year in order to make sure each of our guests is being showcased to the fullest.

Please submit the guest application form by May 1st. We will notify you if you have been accepted as a guest by June 1st.

Your name, or if you are filling this form out on behalf of someone else, their name. If welcomed as a guest, this name will be shown in the guest listing on the website and in the program.
If the primary contact person is not the guest, please list the primary contact name here.
Please enter your best direct contact e-mail address. This will not be listed or disclosed to the public. It is only for communication between you and us (the con organizers). This will be our primary form of communication with you, so please type carefully.
Select "yes" if you would like to receive announcements and communication about future conventions and festivals.
The best phone number to reach you, day or night. We will only use this if we absolutely have to. 99% of communication happens by e-mail, but we like to have a back up way to communicate in case we need to reach you during travel days, or while onsite.
City & State, Country where you reside.
This can be a link to your own website, or if you don't have one, a link to your book listing, IMDB entry, portfolio, etc. Anyplace on the web where someone (including us) can find out more about you. It's not required, but it is helpful.
Check all that apply.
Pickman's Apprentice is a quick drawing competition. Artists have 90 minutes to create a piece based on a location and monster. The pieces are voted on. The winner will be named Pickman's Apprentice! The pieces are sold by silent auction with the proceeds going to charity. This is meant to be fun, so if you don't perform well under pressure, this may not be for you. If you choose "Yes," we will slot you into the competition which will take place Saturday - usually around noon.
Please list any conventions or festivals where you have been a guest speaker, panelist, reader, artist guest, etc. If this is your first one, put "N/A". (Don't worry, everyone has to start somewhere!)
Being accepted as a guest at our festival effectively makes you a representative of the Lovecraftian creator community. We may not always see eye to eye with everyone in it, but we advocate respectful discourse. Time and space is precious at the festival, so those we select will be paragons of the community who are interested in bringing it together, not sowers of discord. Attacking others, name calling, belittling, taking part in flame wars (even if you believe you're on the correct side), and other such childish behavior on social media is not how we want to represent ourselves to the world. Potential guests will share these values and be vetted in this regard. All guests and attendees are also subject to our Code of Conduct (you can read the entire thing here: )
A current biography written in 3rd person for our Website (please limit to around 200 words). The Bio should focus on your professional career. Please enter in plain text. Do not include links or HTML code.

Do not include links or HTML code. Book titles and long publication titles should look like this: _Title of Book_ (please do not use all caps!).
Use this space to list your publishing, film, or art credits. If there is not enough room, list your most notable or most recent credits.
Please attach a photo that can be used with your biography. Photos must be at least 300x450 pixels, otherwise they look goofy. (portrait orientation) .gif, .jpg, or .png format. If you have any problems with this part of the form, skip it and we'll get a headshot from you later.
Files must be less than 2 MB.
Allowed file types: gif jpg jpeg png.
Panel discussions are a chance to show off your knowledge and insight. Please suggest at least one panel topic in which you would like to participate. (If you are a performer, please give us a description or indication of what your performance would be like - run time, tech needs, etc.) Include a title, a description of the discussion you envision, and a dream team to be on this panel with you (living people, please! and as much as we would LOVE to have Neil Gaiman, we don't have 20K for his appearance fee). Past topics have included general topics like "Summoning the Spirit of Lovecraft on the Tabletop: are games as effective as channeling HPL's dread and cosmic horror?" and more specific things like "Lost Worlds of Lovecraft: A deeper look into the adventure epics of the 10s, 20s, and 30s and their relationship to "The Call of Cthulhu" and Lovecraft's other adventure and exploration stories."
Tell us a little about why you think you would make a good guest at the convention, including what you can offer to the fans who attend.
Bookreading? Q&A session? Presentation?
List any recently released works (past 12 months or less) or upcoming releases (within the next 6 months). One per line. This can be books, films, etc.
If you have books, films, prints, or other physical media that you would like to sell, please list here. We will have a space for panelists and guests to sell merch after their events. There is also a group book signing on Sunday morning which is a great venue for selling books. If you are interested in having a vendor table for the entire weekend, please complete the Vendor application (under the "Vendor" menu link)
On Saturday morning from 10am-noon, we have a group signing with multiple authors in the same room so that readers can buy books, get books signed, meet you, and you have a chance to talk to fans and potential fans about your work.
Active festival hours are October 6-8, Friday 7 - 11 pm, Saturday 10 am- 11 pm, Sunday 10 am - 11 pm. Panels will be scheduled up to 11 pm at night. If you are available the entire time, please note "N/A". If there are any times during which you are not available to participate in panels, presentations, or other events, please note the times and days here. (i.e. if you're flying out on Sunday at 8 pm, we obv. can't put you on a panel at 9 pm) If you don't yet know your travel schedule, you can note "not sure" and then be sure to update us when you do know.
We have a green room for guests, stocked with snacks, water, coffee, etc. Help us make sure there is something for you to snack on by letting us know if there are specific things you can't eat, life threatening allergies, etc. (i.e. vegetarian, vegan, allergic to peanuts, etc.)
Any needs that you require to be a guest of the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival, such as Airfare, Hotel, Per Diem, Dealer Table, Disability Services, etc. Items listed here will be considered as requirements, and will affect the acceptance of your application. If one or more of your listed requirements are negotiable, please mark as such.
