Innsmouth explores the “monstrous feminine” with an all-female cast and two male extras. This is notable because Lovecraft's universe is traditionally male-dominated.

Randolph Carter is questioned by local police about the disappearance of his friend. He recounts how the pair trekked into the Gainesville wilderness and ultimately deep into the Earth. He weaves a fantastic tale that centers around a strange book and supernatural elements that surrounds it.
