THE HORROR WRITERS ASSOCIATION (HWA) is a nonprofit organization of writers and publishing professionals around the world, dedicated to promoting dark literature and the interests of those who write it. HWA was formed in 1985 with the help of many of the field’s greats, including Dean Koontz, Robert McCammon, and Joe Lansdale. Today——with over 1250 members in countries such as Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica, Denmark, Germany, Honduras, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Russia, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, Trinidad, United Kingdom and the United States——it is the oldest and most respected professional organization for the much-loved writers who have brought you the most enjoyable sleepless nights of your life.
One of HWA’s missions is to encourage public interest in and foster an appreciation of good Horror and Dark Fantasy literature. To that end we offer the public areas of our website, www.horror.org; sponsor or take part in public readings and lectures; publish a monthly newsletter for members; maintain outreach to booksellers, librarians, fans and readers; facilitate readings and signings by horror writers; offer scholarships; maintain an official presence at genre convention, literary festivals, and publishing trade shows; and hold our own yearly gathering, StokerCon.
Also to that end, we sponsor the annual Bram Stoker Awards® for superior achievement in horror literature. Named in honor of the author of the seminal horror novel Dracula, the Awards are presented for superior writing in eleven categories including traditional fiction of various lengths, poetry, screenplays, and non-fiction. In addition, HWA presents an annual Lifetime Achievement Award to living persons who has made significant contributions to the writing of Horror and Dark Fantasy over the course of a lifetime. The gala awards presentation banquet takes place each year as part of StokerCon.

K. A. Opperman and Ashley Dioses, two of today's finest Weird poets, will be reading from, signing, and selling a number of choice titles in which their work appears.
K. A. Opperman is a writer of Weird and horrific formal poetry from southern California, USA. His influences are many, but Clark Ashton Smith and H. P. Lovecraft are at the top of the long and seedy list. Think exotic, erotic, psychotic, and necrotic—often at the same time. His debut verse collection, The Crimson Tome, will appear from the famed Hippocampus Press a little later this year—nearly 200 pages of madness wrought in rhyme. Aside from that, he has appeared in the journal Spectral Realms, will appear in several anthologies from Horrified Press, and will appear in The Weird Fiction Review #6.
Ashley Dioses is a poet of dark fantasy and horror from southern California. She is currently working on her first book of dark traditional poetry to be out from Hippocampus Press, hopefully this year. Her poetry has appeared in Weird Fiction Review, Spectral Realms, Weirdbook Magazine, Omnium Gatherum Media, Eye to the Telescope, Xnoybis, Necronomicum, Gothic Blue Book, and elsewhere. Her poem, “Carathis”, published in Spectral Realms No. 1, is mentioned in Ellen Datlow's full recommended Best Horror of the Year Volume Seven list. She blogs at fiendlover.blogspot.com.

Known for his creepy, texture-rich style, Monstark creates weird and monstrous art which may be found anywhere from galleries to your local saloon, and which is available for purchase in many forms. Though he lives on a quiet, wooded hill north of San Francisco (it seemed like a great place to meet werewolves) he and his work can regularly be found at art, comics and extreme metal shows up and down the American West Coast.
Necro-Sapien Press is the brain child of illustrator and graphic designer Justin White and dug itself from the grave in 2006. After receiving his degree in graphic design he took his horror show on the road selling his art work and merchandise at conventions and art shows up and down the west coast and Las Vegas, including Wonder-Con, A.P.E. and San Diego Comic-Con. He has illustrated several event posters which include "Inland Empire Comic Expo", "Comikaze", and the "Miss I.E. Zombie Beauty Pageant" and many others. In 2009 he joined up with comic book publisher Forbidden Panel and supplied the art for the premier issue of "ZKS: Zombie Kill Squad". A short time later he was made Forbidden Panel's art director and has since produced the art for three more ZKS books as well as overseeing the artistic content of the company's vast catalog. He is currently writing and illustrating the fantasy horror tale entitled "The Mask of Devouring" as well as the illustrated novella "Ghosts of War: A Maxx Cash Tale". His art can be seen at www.necrosapien.net and on the Necro-Sapien Press facebook page. He can be contacted at necrosapienpress@yahoo.com.
Rick Kitagawa is an award-winning visual artist, storyteller, and arts educator based in the foggy hills of San Francisco. Rick is a multidisciplinary artist that weaves together digital with traditional media, text and imagery, abstract and figurative subjects, and painting and printmaking. What results is a visual journey into a dark world of his own that pays homage to the horror genre, identity politics, and pop culture all while examining the human condition and the darkness within us all. Heavily inspired by the themes of H.P. Lovecraft, Rick creates both cosmic horrors as well as a dark collection of alluring yet dangerous women who are often more than meets the eye.

An artist in clay, paint and on the computer, I've been producing art since high school and love to create. So many ideas, so little time. A proud super nerd/geek with excellently bizarre POTTER skills. "I love Sci-fi and Fantasy (amongst other things like comics, Roman History, Art Deco...). By far though aliens, dragons, demons and faerie folk are some of the best sources of inspiration for me"

Tentacle Penguin Ventures was formed by Kristina Lendrum and Leslie Marchand at the In-and-Out drive-thru on Tampa Ave (you know, that one in front of the Costco?). Tired of their day jobs and longing for intellectual and creative fulfillment, they set out to create an entity that could bring to life original visual art pieces. Their work is heavily influenced by the horror and sci-fi/fantasy genres, emo-punk music, and, of course, the existential dread of everyday life. Ranging from graphic art prints to sculptural mixed media creations, Tentacle Penguin Ventures produces work that aspires to awaken something in the viewer – an unsettling of the mind perhaps, or a subtle stirring of the soul to be something more…
