We will be forming a new steering committee and executive committee for the HPLFF Portland festival in early 2011.
Director Stuart Gordon (Re-animator, Feed, Stuck) and director David Prior (AM 1200) will be on the committee with others to be named.
The current plan is to have the Portland festival in early May of 2012 which pushes out the Portland festival by 6 months from where it has traditionally been held. The plan is also to have the executive committee and positions flushed out by March of 2011.
Yesterday, Southern California Festival Director Aaron Vanek dined with the fine folks of the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society at Mel's Drive-In in Hollywood to discuss plans for this year's HPLFF.
Yes, their new film, the talkie feature Whisperer in Darkness will play at the Warner Grand Theater in San Pedro in September.
Moviemaker and Lovecraft fan Guillermo del Toro confirmed earlier today that he would be the final judge for the winner of the short film contest for the 2011 H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival®, held at the Warner Grand Theater in San Pedro, California, September 16 & 17.

Legendary movie icon Roger Corman will be in attendance at the 2011 H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival® to accept the "Howie" award for contributions to Lovecraft cinema.
Corman was the first director to tackle Lovecraft with his 1963 adaptation of "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward" as The Haunted Palace, starring Vincent Price.
We will be screening The Haunted Palace at this year's festival.

HPLFF®-Los Angeles organizer Aaron Vanek will moderate a panel at this year's San Diego Comic Con about "H.P. Lovecraft in Comics and Film" with Andrew Leman (HPLHS co-founder, director of "The Call of Cthulhu" and producer of "The Whisperer in Darkness"), Frank Woodward (director of "Lovecraft: Fear of the Unknown") artist Adam Byrne ("The Strange Adventures of H.P. Lovecraft") and writer Michael Alan Nelson ("Fall of Cthulhu").

The reception will be Friday, September 16, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., just before the festival opens. Located in the annex of our partners the Grand Vision Foundation, just 50 feet from the theater, join the filmmakers, authors, artists and vendors for an intimate gathering with food and specialty cocktails (non-alcoholic beverages will be available, as beer and wine).
