The Ikon portrays the intertwining narratives of two young men, Vasily and Dmitri, who are situated in two historical crises in Russian history: World War II and the social upheaval following the collapse of the Soviet empire. The timelines of Vasily and Dmitri intersect through their encounters with an icon of dark, unknown origins. Using contrasting imagery of Eastern European folklore and Orthodox Christianity, The Ikon conjures a 20th century tale of horror: a cinematic depiction of individuals confronting society on the brink of collapse, encroaching social disintegration, and the eerie strangeness of the supernatural.
