    CthulhuCon PDX 2015 was amazing! The weekend was spent playing games, enjoying Lovecraftian art, film, and music, and, of course, learning stuff through our course of amazing panel discussions on topics ranging from "Lovecraft Gets Hammered" to "The Lost Worlds of H.P. Lovecraft" to "Dracula VS Cthulhu!" We've posted the first of these, "Neo-paganism and Lovecraft" in our YouTube channel today, with more to be posted in the coming days and weeks.

    The Portland Venue

    All Films and most live events take place at The Hollywood Theatre, built in 1926. Over the years, the Theatre has seated audiences for vaudeville shows, silent films accompanied by live orchestration, Cinerama and more.

    In his iconic weird tale, At the Mountains of Madness,  H. P. Lovecraft, wrote: "I am forced into speech because men of science have refused to follow my advice without knowing why."

    Why was the fiction of Lovecraft, an amateur astronomer, cautionary of what science might discover? How accurate was Lovecraft's research?

    This panel of scientists and Lovecraft experts will discuss the science, truth, and fiction behind this classic novella.

    Dr. Lisa Will is the Resident Astronomer at San Diego's Reuben H. Fleet Science Center. She is also an Associate Professor of Physics and Astronomy in the Department of Physical Sciences at San Diego City College. Dr. Will hosts popular monthly live planetarium show, The Sky Tonight.

  • 20th Anniversary Festival Kickstarter Launched... and funded!

    On Monday, July 6 2015, we launched the "Trip to R'lyeh" Kickstarter campaign for the 20th Anniversary H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival in Portland, OR. Then, 37 hours later, it was funded. We are thrilled at the outpouring of support! This definitely helps us pay some of our most basic expenses, like theatre rental, but there's still a ways to go to make this the Best Festival Ever! Please share!

    Charles Stross, 50, is a full-time science fiction writer and resident of Edinburgh, Scotland. His modern Lovecraftian series, The Laundry Files, includes the Hugo-award winning novellas "The Concrete Jungle" and "Equoid", the Locus Award-winning novel "The Apocalypse Codex", and has been shortlisted for numerous other awards;  "The Annihilation Score" (Laundry Files book six), was published by Ace in July 2015.
